Our Leadership.

Welz Partners is the family office of Gary H. Elzweig, P.E., F.ASCE, a Columbia University-trained civil engineer and Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers with more than 45 years of experience across engineering, construction, real estate development, and M&A. Over the course of his career, he has built, acquired, scaled, recapitalized, and exited multiple businesses in technical and specialty service sectors. He founded PEICO in 1984, later helping lead its merger into U.S. Labs, where he held executive responsibility across a growing national platform and helped guide the company through its Nasdaq listing and subsequent sale to Bureau Veritas. He also founded CAPRI Engineering, growing the business to more than $50 million in revenue across 16 offices and 400+ employees, ultimately receiving EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2006 for that accomplishment and subsequently exiting the company through a recapitalization with Stone Point Capital in 2008. He later acquired and turned around Quality Built, exiting with a 10x MOIC. Most recently, as Founder, Vice Chairman, and Chief Strategy Officer of Obsidian Group Holdings, LLC dba: Universal Engineering Sciences Holdings, LLC (UES), he led 30+ acquisitions in under five years, acquiring more than $100M of EBITDA and helping build the company into a major national platform with approximately $800 million in annual revenue, 90 offices, and 4,000 employees. During his tenure with the company, UES was recognized by Zweig as Hot Firm of the Year for an unprecedented four consecutive years, and early investors realized approximately 18x on exit.
